Information

The Regional Museum of Nymburk maps the most significant milestones in the life of Bohumil Hrabal. Through numerous photographs, a variety of authentic documents and manuscripts, as well as personal items of the writer, it presents the local realities in which Hrabal grew up. His family background—his mother Maryška, father Francin, uncle Pepin, significant friends, and his own rich body of work—are closely connected to Nymburk and its surroundings.

In the nearby former synagogue, there is a permanent exhibition about the history of the railway, which was crucial for the development of the town in the 19th and 20th centuries. The sad fates of Jewish communities in the Nymburk area are also remembered here.

The historical exhibition titled "Nymburk Through the Ages" features the monumental painting "The Submission of the Town of Nymburk to God and the People of Prague in 1421" by the artist Alfons Mucha. He created it for the Nymburk Savings Bank in 1935. The exhibition takes visitors through the historical curiosities of Nymburk from prehistoric times to the end of the 19th century. The permanent exhibition in the main building is complemented throughout the year by temporary exhibitions.
