Within the expansive 16-hectare grounds of the Loučeň Castle park lies a truly unique attraction—an ensemble of eleven labyrinths and mazes, unparalleled not only in the Czech Republic but throughout Europe. Known as the Loučeň Labyrintharium, this extraordinary site seamlessly blends entertainment, symbolism, and garden design, offering a rare fusion of history and play.
Each labyrinth in the park is crafted from a different material, giving every one its own character and atmosphere. Visitors can explore grassy paths, winding stone corridors, a sandstone route, and even a maze formed from ropes. A particularly striking feature is the Light Labyrinth, located in the central courtyard of the castle, which may seem understated during the day but transforms into a captivating spectacle after dark.
One of the most remarkable installations is the Stone Labyrinth, made from river-polished stones collected from the Elbe riverbed. Experts in geomancy regard this spot as the most energetically powerful location in the park. The symbolism of the labyrinths draws inspiration from Celtic, classical, and medieval traditions.
The Yew Maze, the largest of the mazes at Loučeň, is accessed via a raised walkway and challenges visitors with its complex network of paths. In contrast, the Tiled Maze offers a more meditative experience, inviting visitors to choose a path based on colored tiles arranged in circular patterns.
Among the more unusual features is the Finger Labyrinth, carved into a stone menhir, where visitors follow the path using only a single finger. There is also the Alphabet Maze, designed around the lyrics of a traditional Czech folk song—if you follow the letters in the correct sequence, you’ll reach the center.
