Nymburk
The English Park on the "Island"
Information
The English Park on the island between the Elbe River and its old branch, Staré Labe, is the largest park in Nymburk, making it a favorite destination for both locals and visitors.
In the Central Bohemian town of Nymburk, plant and flower enthusiasts will feel right at home. On the left bank of the Elbe, a charming English-style park was established in the first half of the 20th century, featuring a variety of rare tree species.
The park's heart is a meadow dotted with solitary trees, and nearby you’ll find a beautiful linden alley. There are countless paths inviting leisurely walks, and those with a keen eye may spot local wildlife along the way—butterflies, birds, and with a bit of luck, even hares or deer.
An asphalt cycle path runs through the park, also popular among inline skaters, and it connects to the Tyrš Gardens, which offer facilities for summer sports. Nymburk is accessible by train, so even those without a car can easily enjoy a visit to the English Park on the Island—it's less than 2 kilometers on foot from the railway station, across the Elbe.
